Permit Applications and Fees

Permit Information

Permits can be obtained at the Code Enforcement Department office temporarily located at 623 Beck Street. Some of the common items requiring a permit are a roof replacement, window replacement, fence installation, new deck or replacement, building addition and water heater or furnace installation.  To be sure you are in compliance, we recommend contacting the code enforcement department to describe your project and have them tell you if you need a building permit.  It is important to note that there is a fee for not securing a building permit prior to starting the project.  Feel free to stop in with any questions about permits and inspections or call the office at 641-257-6310. You can also send questions or a permit application to Richard Johnson at code@cityofcharlescity.org.

Permit Applications

Note:

Once the permit is complete, drop it off at the Code Enforcement Department office or email to code@cityofcharlescity.org.

Fees

Note:

Building permit fees are based on a sliding scale. It is important to obtain a permit before construction starts, otherwise investigation fees will be applied. Permits must be paid in full before issuance.
